In 1987 the “The Last Emperor” won Best Picture. I doubt that there are a lot of people who managed to see that film. The same year “Fatal Attraction” was also nominated. As a result there occurred a lot of misunderstandings and it is quite difficult to understand what qualities of movie are taken into consideration in order to decide which one to give the ward to. A lot of people till today can not understand how the movie “Shakespeare in Love” managed to win Oscar in 1998 and beat a real masterpiece “Saving Private Ryan”.
“The English Patient” won the Best Picture Award in 1996. Unfortunately not a lot of viewers agree with that choice. Instead, they consider film “Jerry Maguire” to be better one because you will stay awake during the whole film and there are also some jokes. In 2002 “Chicago” crushed “Gangs of New York” and it resulted in misunderstanding. One more movie that really sucked but was the best among the rest of bad ones is film “Oliver”. This is a musical, however. Some way it was better in comparison with the rest.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of good films that did not get any awards. However, we do not have to pay much attention to that fact and only enjoy the films that are really of high quality and deserve our attention. We have to decide on our own what films to watch.
