I remember my first video game gun- The NES Zapper. The only thing that made it close to a real gun was the loud click sound. Boy, how the times have changed. Nowadays we have the Wiimote, the Kinect, and a ps3 gun The Sharpshooter. Even Sony has jumped onboard the peripheral market bandwagon.
Yes, there has been a recent flood of third-party ps3 move guns but this is the ps3 move gun. It is the first official rifle attachment for the ps3 move (Sony also released a pistol attachment a couple of months back). It’s without a doubt the best gun attachment for a home video game console out there. The feeling is kind of like wielding an MP5. The rumble/vibration is actually strong enough simulate a bit of recoil. The reload feature is awesome because the button is located under where the magazine would be. Essentially, you’re going to really get into the game, like you’re actually there ripping bullets. There are also different reload options if you don’t like that one: you tilt the gun left or right, or you can pump-action it (like a shotgun). The navigation controller (the part with the analog stick) works surprisingly well. I thought I would have a tough time running around in Killzone, but it’s like using a controller, since I use my left thumb on the stick anyways, the feeling is the same (also, it has a left-handed option).
It’s just an awesome accessory all around. It really brings an intense arcade experience to your home. There is only one con (or actually pro for certain people) and that is that you won’t be having long playing sessions. Your arms will just be too tired. I guess it forces you to take breaks that way. Could it be Sony’s master plan to help with exercising kids. Who knows? What I do know for sure is what is ridiculously fun- playing with the Sharpshooter. One thing I’d recommend though is to get Socom 4: U.S. Navy Seal Full Deployment Edition. It includes the game, the rifle attachment, and the full move bundle. It’s the best deal out there right now for the move. The move bundle alone (move wand, the eyetoy, and Sports Champions) costs $100, and the navigation controller (the second part, with the analog stick) is another $30. That’s already $130. The Socom 4: U.S. Navy Seals Full Deployment Edition is $150, so it really is worth it. As a Bonus, the game is actually entertaining as hell with the gun.
