1. Saving Private Ryan (1998)

This film is a fictional telling of the Battle of Guadalcanal during World War II. Director Terrence Malick spent 20 years researching the subject. 7. Courage Under Fire (1996)
This is one of the first films to depict the 1991 Gulf War. The film follows a Army Colonel sent to investigate the actions of a female Medevac Huey Commander to determine whether she should be the first woman to posthumously receive the Medal of Honor. 8. Flags of Our Fathers (2006)
This is a film adaptation of the book of the same name written by James Bradley and Ron Powers about the Battle of Iwo Jima and the men who raised the flag on Iwo Jima.
