Great Dogs from Movies

A dog in real life is much more than a friend or a companion, they are more like a partner. You can pick up the dogs personality and the dog will understand your character too. Only you will know how you can interact with your dog. It’s hard work for an actor to portray the relationship with any sense of realism. But sometimes they get it just right so here are my favourite man-dog relationship films ever.

Movies Capital

You know the film is special when the acting of the dog almost outshines the lead actor, a perfect example of this is the connection between Turner and Hooch. Tom Hanks, a great actor as it is, had it easy when his dog played the part as brilliantly as he did. The scene at the emergency vet has to be one of the best scenes of thhe film by the reaction whenever a keyhole spay is mentioned.

If it’s personality in the canine you are after then the Belgian Griffons in the Jack Nicholson classic “as good as it gets” where this toy dog is owned by the neighbour and has some great character. He really likes his animal medicine.

A story of a boy and a dog he rescues from an abusive owner is beautifully portrayed in the film Shiloh. A boy without many friends living in the 1940′s in Minnesota USA does everything he can to protect his new found buddy. It will leave you with warm feelings.

A personal favourite of mine is the film K-9 with James Bellushi, similar to Turner and Hooch as they both came out the same year and was about a policeman with a do, but this was the one I preferred of the two. An unorthodox narcotics cop and a German Shepherd with an attitude, after gruelling shootouts and misadventures, the develop a relationship unlike many other I have seen in a film. It’s magical.
