Holy comic book adaptations! Whats that up in the sky? Its a bird! No Its a plane! No its your friendly neighborhood Superhero Movie coming to a cinema near you.
Comic book movie adaptations are gaining a huge audience over the years with so many superheroes who have made it to the big screen.
Marvel Entertainment made it big with their crime fighting hero line-up like Spiderman, X Men, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man and the upcoming Thor, Captain America as well as the Avengers. Stan Lee must be proud of his children. After all, he created most of the famous Marvel superheroes.
Well apparently, D.C Comics want a piece of the pie. After creating a D.C Entertainment division, Warner Brothers Chairman and CEO, Barry Meyer had recently announced that the studio has lined-up a few release dates for their soon to be realeased 2011 movies which includes several D.C comic book superheroes to be brought to life on the big screen as well as some sequels from the current Batman and Superman franchises.
Most of you would be wondering which D.C superheroes will appear in cienmas this time around and some may have heard rumors of certain projects which are already in pre-production.
Well Green Lantern is scheduled to be released on the 17th of June 2011 starring Ryan Renolds as Hal Jordan. Reynolds who is not unfamiliar with superhero movies after his involvement in Blade 3 Trinity as the annoyingly sarcastic Hannibal King and as Deadpool in Wolverine.
In July 2012, Batman 3 will be back in cinemas and the long awaited sequel to the Superman movie will be out by the end of 2012.
Barry Meyer had also stated that the Flash will be coming into the big screen as the project is nearing a greenlight. Other D.C superheroes such as Wonder Woman and Aquaman may also be making an appearance as they are under development.
Yes, superheroes are the ‘in-thing’ now and expect to be seeing more of them in the near future. Especially after the success of Iron Man, Batman and Spiderman who can blame the studios for not jumping on to this cash cow?
I wonder if Warner Brothers are planning to make a Justice League franchise like what Marvel is doing with their on going Avengers project. I hope they take their time doing it though and not rush it as Justice League is sacred when it comes to comic books as far as I am concerned.
Kind of like X-Men and look what they did to that franchise. Poor Cyclops. He didn’t know what hit him. It all comes down to the director and writers and if you ask me I’d really like to see Zack Snyder who directed the 300 and Watchmen movies to give it a go. I’d actually be happy with any directer that stays as true to the comic as possible. Unlike X-men 3. Poor Jean Grey.

Nevertheless, I bet that if you’re like me, most of you comic lovers are super happy about this news. Who wouldn’t? The only question now is, would these adaptations live up to the expectations of the fans and non fans alike?
