Within this niche are audio editing software, audio mixing software, beat making software ect… Most programs available on the market do each one of these things. You will find endless options when it comes to programs for audio engineering and also the concept of deciding on the best one can be very daunting. In my years like a mix engineer ive worked on the majority of them. Spending endless hours within the studio trying to figure out each program to see exactly what it does. Wasting weeks of my entire life trying to understand if these programs would be the right one for me personally. I always wished the reviews on these bits of software were better. If a person with a few real life experience could detail what they thought I wouldnt have experienced to waste a lot time. Its always seemed odd in my experience there wasn’t much reliable information available. Im not going to say you will find none. Things like sound on sound are a great spot for reviews. Gearslutz is another great forum to discover reviews from real life users. It might take a bit of searching to locate exactly what you are looking for but at least the comments are quality. These places will also be good because they are update with the newest releases of software. Theres nothing worse then going to read an evaluation only to discover it was for any software program made years back. This is something ive done many many times. Celebrate me wish to pull my hair out.
Getting a good review is tough within any subject but its especially so within the pro audio world. Hopefully as time goes on there will be more sites like the ones mentioned previously. Maybe it will be of the priority for manufacterers to give good real life reviews. Personally, i think that this is a far greater way to entice the customer into buying your products. Instead of having fluff press announcements about your products have some well known engineers give it a good honest review. I understand if something similar to this existed I would have saved a lot of time during my life. I wouldn’t have experienced to spend a lot time and money trying different audio production software searching for the one that works well with me. I would have experienced all that information in front of me from the start. Lets hope things get better.
