Pink Floyd’s remastered “Discovery” boxset is the most anticipated popular music box set release since The Beatles box sets from 2009.
The Pink Floyd Discovery Box Set includes 16 CDs. That is all 14 Pink Floyd studio albums from 1967 through 1994. The box set contains 16 discs instead of just 14 because two of their albums are double albums (Ummagumma and The Wall.)
While a lot of Floyd fans already own all 14 of their studio albums, what makes this Discovery box set exciting is that it features new remastered versions of each of these albums. They were expertly digitally remastered by a very respected producer by the name James Guthrie who was a co-producer for The Wall in 1979.
For those who aren’t familiar with the band’s entire back catalog this new box set is a great way to discover it (hence the name.) Is there a better way to listen to Pink Floyd‘s incredible music for the first time than with great digitally remastered sound? I would suggest listening to these great albums chronologically so you can hear the band’s amazing journey from their beginnings with Syd Barrett to the David Gilmour era in the 1980s and ’90s.
And of course there are fans who know their very well known albums such as The Dark Side of the Moon like the back of their hand but who have never fully delved into the band’s other albums. I am a huge fan of Meddle, Animals, and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. I actually enjoy all three of these albums more than The Wall, despite its massive popularity
In addition to the Discovery Box Set, there are also three “Immersion” box sets being released; one for each of their three most popular albums; 1973′s The Dark Side of the Moon, 1975′s Wish You Were Here, and 1979′s The Wall. Each of these Immersion box sets includes from 5 to 7 discs focused on just that album! That may seem like a bit too much to some, but these are really amazing albums and really do deserve that intense level of “immersion.”
The Pink Floyd: Oh By The Way CD Box Set is the “old way” of buying all of the band’s albums in one go. It includes the previous CD versions of Pink Floyd’s albums.
