Movies Capital

It’s been 12 years since Jim Henson’s Muppets made their cinematic comeback, and the fresh material they bring to the screen made for an impressive comedy. Instead,’The Muppets’is a surprisingly original, knowing, even postmodern offering, according to Veronica Lee, which touts a healthy anti-capitalist message despite being made by corporate giant Disney. Thefilmbegins in the human world, where a young couple (played by Amy Adams and the movie’s co-writer Jason Segel) are off to LA on holiday. It’s full of in-jokes and references, celebrity cameos, and of course songs, and is quite simply just great entertainment.

But then it’s back to reality with a bump in David Redmon and Ashley Sabin’s saddening documentary’Girl Model’. It predominantly follows 13-year-old Russian wannabe model Nadya as she finds herself alone inJapanparaded through casting after casting in search of work. It shows her innocence slowly being stripped from her as she fumbles through the bustling streets of Tokyo looking for a job. The film sparks controversy about whether or not they are in fact exploiting Nadya through this film.

According to The Arts Desk’s Alexandra, ‘A Dangerous Method’, featuring A-list actors from Keira Knightley to Viggo Mortensen, was an incredibly disappointing flick. The story charts the friendship and rivalry of Sigmund Freud and his young “heir” Carl Jung as they develop what we now know as psychoanalysis, and how the beautiful but disturbed Sabina Spielrein came between them, but it fatally lacks substance and excitement due to Christopher Hampton’s turgid script.
