There have been some great bands breaking through to the mainstream over the last few years, but there have been a few in particular that have been so great that my iPod hasn’t come off the selection, here is a short list of bands and albums that you should take twenty five minutes out of your day to check out, as you will never know if you like any new music unless you give bands like these some time to really win you over.
London have grown one of my favourite artists of recent times, a quirky musician that uses looped music combined with his digital pianos to create one of the most impressive sounds the blends folk with indie and indie with electronica to create something completely unheard of before. What he manages to do on his own is create a sound that not many 20 piece orchestral bands can recreate and with his gentle vocals and well thought out lyrics he really is one of the must see acts this year. Make sure you catch him before he gets too big and you can see him in an intimate venue.
Bedouin Soundclash are another great band who have just released their fourth studio album with a brand new drummer and quite a different darker style than the songs you may be familiar to, they once had a song on the T-Mobile advert that shot them to a temporary level of fame that wasn’t sustainable but to check out their new album light the horizon as it is their best to date with their gentle guitar riffs and smooth pianos.
James Blake is the final name on my list, as there has been a sharp rise in people listening to dub step and other forms of drum and bass, this artist has taken that and mixed into a semi acoustic track with his melodies making an eerie and slightly spooky soundtrack to enjoy on the warm summer nights track limit your love is the best and its use of grand pianos.
